Moyo Island FAQ — practical and clarifying
The most common questions our 5-day voyage inquirers raise. For real-time answers we hold a 30-minute discovery call before any booking. We are an independent tour curator and are not affiliated with Aman Resorts.
Is moyosumbawa.com affiliated with Aman Resorts?
No. We are an independent tour curator. Amanwana is one of three accommodation tiers we offer. We are not authorised to speak for the Aman brand. Read our independent Aman Moyo review for tier-specific assessment.
How much does Amanwana cost per night?
Approximately $1,850 USD per tent per night, full-board (breakfast, lunch, dinner included), exclusive of beverages, spa, and 21% government tax and service charge. Minimum stay 4 nights. A 4-night stay full-package typically lands at $9,500-$10,500 per couple before extras.
Can I book Cocoteraie Moyo directly?
Yes, but the property is small (8 villas) and email response is via the French-Indonesian co-owner via WhatsApp. Confirmed availability changes within hours. Our atelier service has rapport with the property and can typically secure within 48 hours.
What’s the best time to visit Moyo?
March to November is the dry season — ideal weather, calm crossings, peak diving conditions. June to August is high tourist season; book 4-5 months ahead. December-February is monsoon — calmer crowds but rougher Saleh Bay crossings and increased rainfall. Whale shark sightings peak January-March; if that’s the priority, accept the weather trade-off.
How do I get to Moyo Island?
Fly to Sumbawa Besar (SWQ airport) from Bali Denpasar (DPS) — Garuda Indonesia or Wings Air, 90 minutes. Road transfer to Badas harbor (90 min). Speedboat to Moyo (60 min). Total door-to-door from Bali: 5-6 hours. Atelier service coordinates all three legs.
Can I dive at Moyo?
Yes. The Saleh Bay marine reserve fronts Moyo’s eastern coast, with Angel Reef wall (70m vertical drop) being the marquee site. Reef sharks, eagle rays, and pelagic sightings are regular. Whale sharks pass through January-March. Open Water certification minimum; advanced recommended for the wall dives.
Is the Mata Jitu waterfall trek difficult?
Moderate. 60 minutes through monsoon-deciduous forest, 80 metres elevation change, sturdy footwear required. Suitable for normal-fitness travelers aged 10+. Read our full Mata Jitu trek guide for fitness specifics.
How long should I plan for Moyo?
Minimum 4 nights to align with Amanwana minimum and to experience the marine reserve, Mata Jitu, and Princess Diana cliff at proper pace. Our signature voyage is 5 days/4 nights. Shorter than 4 nights feels rushed.
Can I combine Moyo with Komodo?
Yes. From Sumbawa Besar you can fly to Bima (BMU, 90 min) and ferry to Komodo Labuan Bajo, or fly back to Bali and onward to LBJ. Add 4-5 days for Komodo. We coordinate the combined arc.
What’s the atelier service fee?
$1,200 per 5-day voyage. Includes itinerary design, transfer coordination, dietary briefing, special arrangements, in-country support, and post-trip follow-up. We do not mark up hotel rates.
Did Princess Diana actually visit Moyo?
Yes, in 1993. She visited Amanwana shortly after its opening and the cliff overlook above the second pool of Mata Jitu is locally named for her. Photographs from her visit are displayed at the Amanwana main lodge.
How early should I book?
For peak season (June-August, December-January): 4-5 months ahead. Shoulder season (March-May, September-November): 2-3 months. High-priority special-occasion windows (Valentine’s, anniversary milestones): 5-6 months. Last-minute bookings within 30 days are sometimes possible at the Smart and Atelier tiers; rare at Reserve.
